Section 1: The Why's and How's of Technology

14 comments:

  1. Teaching with technology is a must in the 21st century and that is why I need to take some computer courses. After watching the video clips I was definitely convinced to try to improve.
I needed the helpful reminder to plan lessons using technology to engage my students. As I plan my lessons using the core curriculum standards, I should be following Madeline Hunter's lesson design and format.
After accessing in class Ed Tech resources to enhance my classroom instruction, I plan to spend more time to explore what's available.

  2. The class, Teaching With Technology, was a great class. The video really supported why I was taking the class. I need to keep up with the technology and find ways to use it in my class. There is so much out there that it gets a little overwhelming. I have heard of the sites on UEN but never took the time to look at them. This is the problem- time. I really appreciate the time you gave us to look at them.
I also loved how you showed us to use technology and still stay within the CORE. My goal is to try to use technology at least one more day a week and with every unit come up with something to use ie: podcasts. I know that once I start to use it the easier it will get and the more I will want to use it.

I loved the class this week and came out of it with a new enthusiasm for wanting to learn new and exciting ways to incorporate technology in my kindergarten classroom. My eyes were opened at the wealth of resources that are available to use in my class. I had forgotten how great the UEN website was, and I had heard about the Pioneer Library, but I had no idea how helpful these sites would be in my classroom. I liked Katie’s comment that teaching technology is not showing a new “games” or other “software” to our students, but taking the core and bringing it to life and engaging the students while teaching it. Looking forward to learning many more helpful ways to use my computer to become a better teacher.

  6. I enjoyed the class and cannot wait until the next one. I spent last night looking over the Pioneer Library site and a few other sites. I pulled some information off of the site for my 1st period Study Skills class and some information for a small group discussion in Language/Arts. I am definitely ready to use more technology in my classroom. This class will help me teach core standards more effectively.

  7. One of the important concepts that was discussed last night that I particularly enjoyed was the Pioneer Library. I am well acquainted with eMedia and recognize that it’s a wonderful source for electronic curriculum, but all the other links that were brought to my attention are also equally valuable. With all the times I have been to the Pioneer Library, I didn’t give a second thought to clicking on any other link. Granted, time is always a concern when researching but knowing what is available on Pioneer now will motivate me to allocate the time necessary to checking out the resources there. Thanks for a great class.

  8. I enjoyed the class even though I don't have a Mac yet of my own. I have a new one that I use at school and would like to get my own. Any advice on purchasing one? I'm looking forward to learning about engaging students with technology in the classroom.
    See you next Tuesday!

  9. I found the first session of our Mac class to be interesting and informative. The time passed quickly and I found the instructors to be very helpful. I enjoyed the videos on the need for implementing technology to teach the core curriculum. Tonight I reviewed a few of the available resource sites. I am impressed with the variety and quality of those sites. I looked at Spelling City and Read, Write, Think and found material that I will use with my class this week. Thanks!

  10. I enjoyed learning about the spelling website. It looks like a great way to meet the needs of both struggling spellers and great spellers. I haven't set it up yet but I will.

  11. Last week's class was fantastic. The sites I explored this week will enrich my students' learning. It is good to be reminded of Pioneer Library and exciting to see many links to a wealth of information. I cannot wait for the next class. My Mac has been a great tool for me and I am anxious to learn more.

    We need change.
    Change is good.

  12. I am a resource teacher in an elementary school. Our students have a wide range of needs. Often we are looking for a different, more effective way to meet the needs of students. We also have ESL students in regular education classes that we are asked to help locate resources for. So many of the sites you showed us have the potential to be helpful to these students. Thank you, thank you, for opening my eyes to the way technology can meet these students needs.

I thoroughly enjoyed this class! You guys did a great job walking around and helping, explaining things so fully, and making the information interesting. I knew that the UEN site was fantastic, but never made use of it before. What an amazing reference source. I can't wait to get some more time to work some sites into my curriculum plan. As elementary as it seems, I also liked your form on daily lesson plan at the beginning which made what we all do by rote clearer! You guys are well planned and stress-free! Thanks!

  14. I liked learning about the different sites. I am familiar with a lot of the sites we went to tonight. I believe these sites can be helpful to all students at all different learning levels. I have seen a little of the world book site and I loved what I saw. I know I will make use of this site.
