Reflections from the "Using Your Computer to Enhance Classroom Instruction" (Mac Basics) professional development course offered by the IT department of the Canyons School District
Wow! I am so excited to learn more of what my computer can do. Who knew that my computer can talk. I am so excited to use this with the student's writing. It will be great for them to be able to hear how their story sounds. I am also excited to learn about the features with the pad. I reset my functions and will try them out. I am so glad to have my dashboard from my left corner. That will reduce my frustration level. I also loved learning about the dock. I am so glad that I was able to put new icons on my dock. My class will wonder what happened when they see fairy dust across my screen. ;) Thank you!!!!!
I was so excited to learn about my computers preferences and all the choices I have to make my computer easier to use. I came right home and changed all the preferences on my mac at home and was pleasantly surprised I could remember most everything. I completely changed my dock and now feel like I have what I want down there. I had no idea how to do that before the class. Thank you for making the class so user friendly. My computer skills are getting better each week and my comfort level is going up each week.
Poof! It's gone! This was the first time I felt good about something disappearing without a panic of possibly losing it permanently. It was great to learn how to add and delete applications on my dock. Now, I have exactly what I want handy to choose. I chose Vickie as my favorite speaking computer voice. My students will be fascinated to hear that feature come out of my computer.
I really like being able to put my arrow in the right corner and see everything I have and choose what I want. It makes it very easy to go from page to page or project to project. The tap is driving me crazy. I think I will really like it when I get used to it but right now I keep clicking instead of tapping. Ann Simonds
I never knew my computer had so many capabilities! Learning about the various facets of system preferences was enlightening. I especially enjoyed learning about my computer's ability to talk, even with a wide variety of voices.
I enjoyed learning about the system preferences and how to customize my dock! I have deleted a few items from my dock and added some that I frequently use. I will need more practice with setting preferences but I was glad to be made aware of many of the possibilities and capabilities of my computer. Thanks!
Sharie (Sharman) Johnson I'm most excited about the speech functions we learned about. I teach resource students who have severe difficulties reading. The highlight, command ~ will have so many applications in our classroom. We just need more computers for students! I have to say that Omnidazzle may be my second favorite thing we learned about...who knew computers have so much potential for girlie-girl bling bling. I have some students that may work extra hard for the chance to "decorate" on the computer. Thanks for another very worthwhile evening.
It was so helpful to learn some new things about my preferences for the computer. Hot corners is great for me. I liked learning about the mouse pad. It was really great to learn about text to speech. This might be great when I loose my voice.
Thanks for the information on how to handle lots of things open at the same time. I open everything and have a huge mess.
